OpenELEC (Open Embedded Linux Entertainment Center), a small package designed to create a home theater (HTPC - Home Theatre PC). Used as the basis of a media center XBMC, has rich functionality and supports empowerment through your add-ons. Size of the system image suitable for booting from USB-drive (flash) or SD-card is 80-125MB. OpenELEC installation is so easy that anyone can turn a computer into a home theater in less than 15 minutes to work with you no more difficult than with a DVD-player or set-top box.
Besides regular features XBMC, OpenELEC supports a number of additional features aimed at simplifying the maximum. For example, preparing a special configuration addition, lam dep allows you to configure the network connection, control parameters LCD-screens, enable or disable the automatic installation of updates. In this case, all manipulations can be performed without a keyboard, only with the remote control. Out of the box distribution supports features such as the use of remote control (control as possible via infrared or via Bluetooth), business file sharing (integrated server Samba), lam dep built-in BitTorrent-client Transmission, automatic search and connection of local and external drives. The user does not need to worry about maintaining the system up to date, because lam dep in the distribution is used to automatically download and install updates, activated when you connect to the global lam dep network. You can extend the functionality of the distribution system through the add-ons that are installed lam dep from a separate repository, developed by the project developers. OpenELEC will work on Pentium 4 x86 and older computers. Availability of open and proprietary drivers for cards AMD / ATI, NVIDIA and Intel. After giving our first steps with the Raspberry Pi and configured 99 cent store a remote control in OpenELEC, now comes the turn to properly configure the SAMBA protocol OpenELEC 99 cent store to access the external disk Raspberry from other computers on the LAN.
By default, when you connect a hard drive to the Raspberry, it will be automatically 99 cent store recognized if you have a compatible format. In particular, I recommend formatting in exFAT for several reasons: it is compatible with Windows and Mac (I guess with Linux too), allows files larger than 4GB (FAT32).
Once formatted and connected to the Raspberry, if we connect from the computer to the Raspberry using SAMBA (from the Finder of Mac, for example) we see that the hard drive is mounted in her path "Media / nombredeldisco" (In my case I called multimedia).
However, if you enter the hard drive and you look down on the space you have available the hard drive, it may not match the actual. In my case a 1TB hard drive detects only 9.7 MB available.
To correct this, we must address the "configFiles" 99 cent store of Raspberry directory (in the root directory is when we connect to SAMBA, as you can see in the first screenshot).
Then open it with a text editor (Notepad on Windows or TextEdit on Mac) and add at the very end a new section that references the external 99 cent store hard drive. [Media] path = / media / multimedia available = yes browsable = yes public = yes writable = yes
In path will the path where the hard drive is mounted. All other options 99 cent store we put a "yes" to make it public, navigable, is available and can be written on it (and put some files from another computer, for example). Go bracketed name of the directory is created, so we can put whatever we want.
Once done save the file, reboot the access Raspberry and again using SAMBA should 99 cent store apparate a new directory called "Multimedia". If we agree to it, it should already show space correctly.

and it have worked cuponatic really well to controll openelec with the harmony remote (that was set to controll the TV). i recently bought the reciever and it continued to work great, but today the pi stopped recognizing the CEC-signals from the harmony remote. cuponatic It does however recive the signals if i use the recievers remote. (but that's not a good solution for a bunch of reasons).

Backup: Enable SSH on OpenELEC, you can do it in OPenELEC settings. Log in to by using one of clients (I used PuTTY http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html ). Xtreamer Ultra 2 Install OpenELEC | { Panshin's Tech Blog }
Several days ago I bought a Xtreamer Ultra 2. The device come with pre-installed OpenELEC, however the version of the OS is very old. So first thing, I had to update the OS to a new one. The installer for OpenELEC isn’t like other installers; with OpenELEC, the first thing you do is create a USB key that you can install from. This installer key is what we’re going to create in this first part.
Once it’s downloaded, you’ll have a file that ends in .tar.bz2 – this file contains the OpenELEC installer files. Once the files have extracted, enter the folder you extracted to and you should see lots of files and folders. The file we’re most interested in is create_installstick.bat which will create promiedos an installer USB key.
After a quick check in My Computer, I can see my USB key is E. So I enter the following and press enter:
You can enter Xtreamer Ultra BIOS using remote control or mini keyboard. Turn the Ultra ON (power button on the remote) and then press CLS(Clear) on remote control or Fn + DEL buttons on remote keyboard repeatedly before the intro screen disappears.
We’re going to carry out a quick install, so just hit enter to get to the next screen. This next screen shows the locations it’s promiedos possible to install OpenELEC to. My machine is going to boot from build in 32GB SSD so I’ve only got one option. If you’ve got more than one disk, make sure you select promiedos the right one as the installer will wipe the disk. Press OK to select the disk:
The installer will ask several question, promiedos regular user should answer “No” for the questions. After several confirmations the installer promiedos will now go away and wipe, partition and format the disk for you. After that, it will copy over the OpenELEC files and make the disk bootable. Expect this to take a few minutes:
When the machine reboots, remove the installer USB key as we don’t need it any longer. As long as you’ve got the system to boot from the media you just installed to, your computer should now boot straight into OpenELEC.
